Good Morning and welcome back!
I hope everyone is finding ways to stay warm during this snow storm, (a few frisky things come to mind…) as it would definitely appear that winter is coming. (GOT reference anyone?!)
For this week’s recipe, I am going to show you how to prepare my version of Asian Chicken Burgers that will be sure to have your significant other salivating! I tend to gravitate towards leaner cut meats, such as ground chicken or ground turkey, so that is what I used here.
Listed below are the ingredients that you will need for this recipe:
1 Lb of ground chicken
1/2 Cup of breadcrumbs – Italian Seasoning
1/2 Onion – diced
2 Tsps of Teriyaki sauce
1 Tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 Tsp ground garlic
1 Tsp low sodium soy sauce
1 Tsp cumin
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
First, mix together the ground chicken, teriyaki, breadcrumbs, spices, egg, onion, soy sauce, salt and pepper in a bowl with a fork.
To cook the burgers, I prefer a skillet. Just a little tip (JLT): In order to prep the skillet, I use a little olive oil and a paper towel. I pour a teaspoon of oil onto a plate and dip the corner of the paper towel in it, and then rub down the skillet:
This next step is where you get to get your hands dirty! Dig into that that meat mixture (rarr)! Like you mean it people! Form burger patties (I try for the size of my palm) and put them on the skillet at a medium temperature:
JLT: Put a lid over the burgers to lock in the moisture and prevent the burgers from becoming dry in the center. Cook for about 7-10 minutes on one side, then flip:
Cook for another 5-10 minutes and then drizzle with some additional teriyaki sauce.
JLT: Another way to keep the burgers from drying out is to pour a touch of vegetable broth, or chicken broth, into the pan, turn off the heat, and let the heat from the skillet cook the burgers for the last 5 or so minutes:
Serve on a sesame bun with a slice of tomato, lettuce and a side of sweet potato fries (mine were store bought) and you’ve got yourself of tasty meal!
