Cinnamon Apple Crisps!

I had gone apple picking a week or so ago with family and friends and had some leftover apples sitting in my fridge and was trying to think of a way to utilize them. (I really dislike waste.  Ask any of my classmates.)  I was trolling the internet and came across an apple crisp recipe by Sally’s Baking Addiction.  I wanted to test them out for myself and boy was it amazing!  I tweaked a few things to suit my tastes and wanted to share it with you all!

Below are the ingredients needed for these yummy crisps.

Ingredients:

3 Apples – Sliced

3 T. of Sugar

1-2 T. of Cinnamon

First step is to preheat your oven to 200F.  We want to bake these apples for a long period of time under a lower temperature to dry out the apples and allow them to crisp over nicely.

The next step is to create these beautiful slices of apple!  It can be any type of apple, just make sure that your slices are as thin as possible, as this will create a crispier chip.  If  you are nervous that you won’t be able to cut thin enough slices, or that perhaps your fingers are in jeopardy of being in a knife fight, I would highly recommend investing in a mandolin.  They aren’t too expensive and they can help with a variety of other dishes, like scalloped potatoes, slicing beets for a salad, slicing cucumbers for a salad, slicing lemons for a baked lemon chicken dish and so much more!

Once you have your thin slices, lay them out on a baking sheet that’s lined with parchment paper.

Just a Little tip (JLT): Make sure that you use parchment paper and NOT wax paper.  I accidently tried wax paper and the paper adhered to my baking sheet. SUPER fun to clean.

Next, combine the sugar and cinnamon into a bowl and mix thoroughly.  Then sprinkle the sugar onto the apples. Flip them over and do it to the other side as well.

JLT: I like to use my fingers to sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apples.  It gives my better control so I don’t accidently dump a huge amount over one apple and not enough on others.  Just pinch a bunch of sugar between your thumb, pointer finger and middle finger and then gently rub back and forth.

After both sides are evenly coated, throw the baking sheet (s) in the oven and let them bake for an hour to an hour-and-a-half.  Flip them using tongs then let them bake for another hour.  Once completed, turn off the oven and leave the crisps in the oven to cool for an hour.
